Welcome to the Website of

Archives of Latvian Folklore

This is the website of the Archives of Latvian Folklore (Latviesu folkloras kratuve, LFK), Institute of Literature, Folklore and Art, University of Latvia.
It has been intended to serve as an information resource, therefore you won't find frequent changes of design.
It is also rather difficult to provide information on a nation's folklore as the necessary background information greatly exceeds simple translation of texts. This is the reason why the Latvian version is richer in information. Still, in case some particular information is needed, please do not hesitate to contact us.

To navigate through the pages, please use the contents list on the left and the links within the pages. Inside this site you will find textual descriptions, as well as sound samples and images.

Do not consider this site finished - updates will be added from time to time. If you have any suggestions please do not hesitate to send them to us.

We are among those using twitter so you can be informed about the news by following us here, still this will require some knowledge of Latvian.

This site is hosted with the help of the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory.

This website was created by:
Dr. Guntis Pakalns - texts about legend collections, photography,
Aldis Putelis - other texts, photography, technical design, translation.

In order to use the material available for any purpose please receive a prior permission from LFK!
